How much do you love your life right now? Unfortunately, human nature is such that it’s quite common to get into a cycle of never being satisfied and seeking the next thing: a new car, bigger house, better job, etc.

And, while it’s good to have goals, it’s important to think about the extent to which you are dissatisfied with what is and searching for what’s next.

So, how can you get out of this trap and fall in love with your life right now, exactly as it is? Here are 3 effective lifestyle shifts to make right now because you deserve to wake up every morning excited about your life!

3 Lifestyle Shifts to Love Your Life Right Now!

1. Choose Happiness

We often think that happiness is something that happens to the lucky few, rather than something you can choose at every moment. However, happiness is absolutely a choice, and it’s one that you have to consistently make every day.

Reframe Your Life Situation

In order to truly love the life you have now, learn how to reframe your life situation. The first and most important step to doing this is to stop any and all comparisons with other people.

With the rise of social media, AI, and a plethora of apps that can completely alter someone’s appearance, there is no reason to feel inferior, insecure, or less than. Social media has become a form of entertainment that doesn’t always accurately reflect reality. So, treat it as such.

And, if your friends are living an authentic life that you envy, think about what makes their life desirable to you.

Then, use it as a model in which to base your life. You can make purposeful, positive shifts and still embrace happiness and positivity now!

However, keep in mind that the grass is not greener on the other side. And, now is the perfect opportunity to water your own grass (metaphorically speaking) and feel the gratitude and joy that comes with a focus on personal development and intentional acts of self care.

Intentional Living

It’s important to note that while you don’t have control over the outside world, or what may happen to you, you do have control over how you respond. Reacting impulsively will only serve to perpetuate a difficult situation. Instead, look for the lesson or silver lining in every situation.

By living mindfully, embracing the present moment, and practicing gratitude, you will open yourself up to a whole new set of possibilities and learn how to love every aspect of your life.

Be of Service

Nothing will humble you or grow your compassion more than giving to those less fortunate than you. So, make the decision to be of service in your community. And, although donating money is a generous and worthwhile act, donating your time and attention can prove even more valuable.

Whether you volunteer at an animal shelter, clean up the trash at a local park, or take part in a road race for a good cause, spending time in service of others will inspire feelings of joy, increase your sense of community, and help you feel a shared humanity with everyone involved.

2. Embrace a Simple Life

Everything doesn’t have to be perfect to love your life right now. However, we are conditioned to believe that we need a lot of material things to be happy. And, while having nice things feels good, think about the extent to which you actually need them in order to be happy.

Too much stuff can seriously complicate your life, deplete your savings account, and negatively impact the environment. So, why not embrace a minimalist attitude?

As a result, you can focus on what truly matters and set goals that will inspire authentic happiness and personal freedom.

For instance, when my husband and I chose to have a future together, we had a heart-to-heart discussion about the goals and dreams we had for our shared life.

We set three strategic targets: pay off our mortgage, have a specified amount in our retirement fund, and be completely debt free. That was 9 years ago. Today, we have accomplished 2 out of 3 of those goals and are quickly closing in on the last one!

Our success is largely due to committing to a simpler lifestyle. Together, we actively decide how and when we spend our money.

Enjoy Small Moments

And, we learned to find joy in the small things. For instance, we love cooking together, gardening, and hanging out with our fur babies. Also, we have individual and shared hobbies that we are passionate about.

By choosing to live simply and mindfully in all areas of your life, you will enjoy a deeper sense of peace and contentment.

In addition, when you really want something, like a luxury trip or a new car, you’ll have the money to splurge on yourself without accruing debt. And, your future self will thank you for that!

3. Make Self Care a Priority

Making self care a priority may sound obvious, but effective acts of self care often take a back seat. And, self care can mean a variety of things because it encompasses every aspect of your life. So, let’s jump right in!

Health and Wellness

The first step in any effective self care routine is to make sure that you are caring for your physical and mental health.

This includes scheduling all doctor appointments in a timely manner, getting a yearly physical with bloodwork, and having all age-appropriate health screenings and appointments (mammogram, teeth cleaning, colonoscopy, etc.).

If you’re anything like me, you may be tempted to procrastinate. However, remind yourself that a clean bill of health is the foundation of a happy life, then go for it. The benefits of pushing through your initial discomfort will be well worth it!

Vitamin and Supplement Routine

I would be remiss not to mention the wonderful benefits of having a well-balanced diet while consistently taking the right combination of vitamins and supplements for you!

According to the Harvard School of Health, “Biochemist Bruce Ames from the University of California, Berkeley, has developed a list of 41 vitamins and minerals such as magnesium and omega-3 fatty acids that he says may help with healthy aging.

These substances help keep the body running smoothly. If supplies run low, the body may have to pull resources from tasks like repairing DNA damage that keep cells younger and healthier, but keeping supplies up could prevent this, according to Ames.”

So, it may be time to invest in some key vitamins to help you achieve your health goals. And, due to the sheer amount of information out there, I have culled specific vitamins and supplements that can have the greatest impact on your health.

Probiotics

In addition, a high-quality probiotic plays a major role in enhancing health and wellness. That’s because your gut microbiome impacts your entire body, both physically and mentally.

Better Health Channel states, “The gut breaks down the foods you eat and absorbs nutrients that support your body’s functions.

The importance of the gut to our overall health is a topic of increasing research in the medical community. Research is showing us that our gut microbiome can affect every organ in our body.”

Studies also show that gut health positively affects:

  • your digestion
  • sleep habits
  • the immune system
  • your mental health
  • autoimmune diseases
  • endocrine disorders (diabetes)
  • gastrointestinal disorders (IBS)
  • heart disease
  • cancer

And, if you’ve read any of my health-related articles, you know I’m a huge advocate of taking a high quality probiotic. My wellness routine has included this high-quality, non GMO, vegan capsule for the last few years. And, the results have been exciting and even life-changing for me personally.

Routine’s prebiotic-probiotic combination addresses digestion, immunity, vaginal health, and weight, all in one vegan capsule! And, it has been a key factor in helping me lose weight in menopause. (Win win!)

With most days dominated by work, errands, family obligations, and whatever else life decides to throw my way, I love the idea of a daily probiotic being an effortless way to ensure I stay on top of my health goals. And, you will too!

Eat Healthy

Eating healthy doesn’t have to be hard. In reality, it’s actually quite easy! The key is simply to create good habits to replace the not-so-good ones!

Common sense eating means that you consume meals rich in leafy vegetables while limiting red meat and refined carbs. And, limit your alcohol intake or stop drinking altogether.

Plant-rich diets promote the ‘good’ bacteria in your gut that stimulates and bolsters immune activity. Ingesting natural, nutrient-rich foods loaded with antioxidants is the cornerstone of a happy, healthy, and productive life!

Exercise

Exercise is an important daily habit, especially if you are a woman in midlife. And, it’s essential to move your body everyday in ways that keep you strong and energized.

Although your exercise routine may look different as you age, the important thing is that you stay active and motivated to move and build muscle! So, find activities that you enjoy in order to fully commit to a daily exercise program.

Whether you prefer low impact cardio, yoga, or spin class, just go for it! And, be sure to incorporate some weight training for optimal results.

Personally, I practice yoga, cycle, hike, and go for long walks in my neighborhood. However, my midlife neighbor is an avid runner and even recently ran the Boston Marathon! So, do whatever inspires you!

Having different options helps me to create a fun exercise routine and allows me the flexibility to workout daily. And, exercising often is not only important for your physical health, but positively impacts your mental health, as well!
