Body

Exercise is the key to a youthful lifestyle!

Studies show that you can exercise your way to a younger you! The benefits of regular exercise are immeasurable.

An effective fitness routine will help you build stronger muscles and prevent chronic illnesses while helping you feel energized.

Even moderate amounts of exercise can shave years off your chronological age, no matter how old you actually are. Being physically active will help you take charge of your health and your life.

“We don’t stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.”

George Bernard Shaw

Diet plays an important role in maintaining a younger body and mind.

Natural, unprocessed foods, like fruits and vegetables are loaded with antioxidants. As a result, your body can fight off free radicals that damage DNA, cells, and tissues.

A diet rich in these natural foods will also boost your immune system, promote mental sharpness and clarity, decrease the risk of cancer, and keep your complexion looking flawless.

Fiber from whole grains can efficiently clean your digestive system. And, minerals from calcium-rich foods and leafy greens work to strengthen your bones.

Mediterranean Diet

Although there are many different diets that promote weight loss, the Mediterranean diet has been shown to have wonderful benefits especially for women in midlife!

Studies show that the healthiest women eat more plant-based foods, whole grains, fish, and consumed less red and processed meats. And, that’s central to a Mediterranean-type diet, which is also rich in olive oil and nuts.

Eating a diet that consists mainly of fruits, vegetables, whole grains (whole wheat bread, brown rice, quinoa and farrow), olive oil, beans, nuts, legumes (lentils, dried peas and beans), seeds, herbs and spices lowers cholesterol, promotes weight loss, and improves symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.

And, it reduces the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, and different types of cancer.

It’s also important to note that a low alcohol intake is another one of the secrets to aging well.

Key Supplements

Vitamins and supplements play an important role in any wellness routine. However, you want to be sure you’re getting exactly what you need to feel strong, healthy and vibrant!

Collagen

In addition to a healthy diet, there are some key supplements you may want to add to your daily routine now, and collagen is a big one!

Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body. Therefore, it plays an important role in your physical health. This protein is responsible for structure, stability, and strength.

And, it supports various tissues, including tendons and ligaments, as well as your teeth and skin.

Unfortunately, as you age, the production of collagen decreases along with the quality of the collagen you are producing.

However, numerous studies over the course of several years, have proven the effectiveness of taking daily collagen peptides.

Results have proven that a quality collagen peptide positively supports skin health, including:

  • improvement in the pliability and elasticity
  • greater smoothness, fewer wrinkles, and less skin roughness
  • significant reduction in skin dryness and wrinkles
  • enhanced facial blood (microcirculation) and reduced the signs of aging in the face
  • reduced skin wrinkles and skin aging
  • treatment increased nail growth
  • improve the appearance of nails

It was concluded that, “Thus, there was an abundance of pre-clinical and clinical reports that provide evidence for collagen hydrolysates supplementation, which supports the enhancement and/or improvement of dermal health via oral administration and via nutritional products.”

Mind

Watch your thoughts.

All energy vibrates at a particular frequency. As a result, you draw people and situations into your life that resonate at a similar frequency.

So, stay positive whenever possible! Thoughts are energy in motion. And, not only do they have an effect on how you feel, they play a role in creating your reality.

It’s easy to be hard on yourself as you experience physical changes. But, don’t entertain unhelpful thoughts, like:

  • My body isn’t the same.
  • I don’t look attractive anymore.
  • Gravity is taking its toll.
  • I’m getting wrinkles.
  • My neck/hands make me look old.
  • My hair isn’t as healthy, shiny, or thick as it used to be.

Although these may be some of the inevitable challenges women face in midlife, it’s important to put them in perspective. Are these changes really that bad when you match them up against a lifetime of valuable experiences? Personally, I don’t think so!

One of the secrets to aging well is to realize that in midlife, you’ve acquired an abundance of knowledge. You’ve learned some important lessons and have built character through life challenges.

These are invaluable gifts of getting older, and I wouldn’t trade them for the world. To learn about my midlife awakening, click here.

Memory loss does not have to be a part of the aging process.

As you get older, you may begin to notice your recall isn’t as sharp as it once was. But, significant memory loss is not an inevitable result of reaching midlife.

Research in neuroscience has recently uncovered a previously unknown concept of brain plasticity. This refers to the brain’s incredible ability to change throughout your lifetime!

In other words, you have the ability to grow your hippocampus which is the area of your brain that is critical to your ability to learn and remember.

By acquiring and practicing new skills, you will keep your memory sharp and can even prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

You can learn new things at any time in your life.

Adults in midlife and older adults are just as capable of learning new things and thriving in new environments, and they have an invaluable perspective on life based on years of experience.

All you need to do is to have the confidence to know that you can achieve any goal or learn a new skill set at any time in your life!

Soul

Meditating is food for your soul.

Life is unpredictable, and aging can be a particularly challenging experience. If you are prone to bouts of depression, it can be difficult to adapt. This can lead to increased stress, anxiety, and even illness.

However, meditation emphasizes an expansion of awareness. So, it helps you to stay more positive and present even in the most trying situations. It also supports you in creating an authentic life aligned to your true nature.

A Better Brain

Meditating is beneficial for your brain! Daily meditation can train your brain to observe a thought without having an emotional reaction to it. And, staying grounded in presence and gratitude is a superpower!

Research also shows that long-term meditators have better preserved brains than people who never meditated. That’s why meditation is one of the key secrets to aging well.

Sara Lazar, from Harvard University, learned in a recent study that mindfulness meditation actually changes the structure of the brain. It increased cortical thickness in the hippocampus which controls learning and memory.

Participants who had been meditating for an average of 20 years actually had more grey matter volume throughout the brain as compared to younger meditators. This is encouraging news for people in midlife!

Detach yourself from from negative situations.

Look at the world from the perspective of the wise mind, or your highest self. In other words, imagine that the you are observing yourself from above. This will provide the space that you need in challenging or stressful situations so that you can make the best decisions for you.

Another secret to aging well is to protect and nurture your soul. So, learn to differentiate between what you have control over and what you do not.

If you do not have control over a situation, release it. In this way, you can bring acceptance into the present moment. However, you always have control over your inner state, and your ability to respond (not react) to situations mindfully and deliberately.

Soon, you’ll start to notice that small annoyances don’t register anymore. And, you will begin to feel a greater sense of peace and contentment in your daily life.

“Aging is an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have been.”

David Bowie
